Protect your desk skirt and cover with a 2.0 mm (thicker than 1/8" but thinner that 1/4")  thick quality crystal like vinyl.  This will protect your the top of your table skirt from collecting dust, makeup, etc.  Ships as 24" x 48" and is easily made to size or optional we cut to size for a small upcharge.
 
PRO TIP: If you want to ensure you can use your skirt and desk considered purchasing a standard 24" x 48" piece of plywood to place atop your desk and cover that each year.
